How to Move with Kids Hassle-Freely?

If you're a parent, particularly with small children, you know how difficult it is to get something done during the day without tiny hands tugging at your shirt and demanding more juice every five minutes. Children are great, but during difficult times in your life, such as moving into a new home, you may only need them to be quiet and amused. We understand. So, here are a few ideas to help you keep the kids entertained while you pack and help movers.

1. Make packing a game if your kids are old enough! First, go through and pack all of their breakable, heavy, and large items into their room. Then, give each of you a box and tell them that if they can fill it with their stuffed animals/toys before you do, they can win a prize. You'll be surprised by how easily their space can fill up, and hopefully your little one will be amused and even sleepy enough for you to move on to the next task.

2. If your child or children aren't old enough for the competition or actually don't want to participate, you can leave a small package of their toys or gadgets unpacked so they have something to do as you finish packing up the rest of the building.

3. Some children dislike toys or prefer that you play with them. In this scenario, you could give them a laptop or tablet filled with age-appropriate games or movies to play or watch when you're doing other things. You've bought yourself at least an hour and a half if you give them a snack and a movie.

4. Give them a bribe! While it may seem to be a negative trait, children adore candy and sweets. It's an unavoidable fact of life. So, if you find yourself having some time to pack things up, simply tell them they can have a treat at the end of the day/when you're finished if they behave and listen. For a cookie, small children would go to great lengths!

Include your children in the relocation process!

It's all too easy to forget about your children during the moving process as you hunt for a new house, pack, and organize with your movers. If at all possible, we suggest including children in the moving process. Even the smallest job can have a significant impact on your child's attitude toward their new home.

Make the most of your time.

In some cases, you will have months to plan your transfer, and in others, you may only have a few weeks. Our key piece of advice? Make the most of your time if you have it. Prepare the kids for the change by providing them with as much detail as possible about your new home, such as pictures of their new space, where they'll go to school (try to arrange a school tour with their new teacher), and photos of the nearby playground they'll visit.

Join forces with a family-friendly moving business.

On moving day, you'll most likely be preoccupied with the logistics of coordinating with your mover and packing up the kitchen, leaving your children feeling neglected. Several moving firms have devised special steps to ensure that children are cared for on the day of the move.
