Your Best Downsizing Options and Ways
Downsizing is hardly the first choice for anyone. If it's because your children have grown up and moved out, or you just need a more manageable house payment, downsizing in more ways than one can be stressful. Here are several suggestions to help make the transition as seamless as possible from large to smaller other than calling a moving company.
De-cluttering -If in the past 6 months you haven't used it or worn it, throw it away! Of course, you don't always have to throw it away, you can recycle or even sell for extra cash your used clothes or products, but you do get what I mean.
Yard Sale - Yard Sales are a perfect way to get rid of the old stuff that has been sitting for years around your house. If it really was something you wanted, you would probably have been doing it for the past six months. Plus, the additional money will go to your new house!
Sell larger furniture and, with the money you make, buy smaller pieces. Of course, you can do this in a yard sale, but through apps such as LetGo, 5Miles, and even Facebook marketplace, another great choice is. You will typically get close to what you originally paid for it if it's a nicer piece of furniture with little wear and tear, and that money will go into purchasing a smaller piece that suits better in your new home.
Bulky Item Trade - Trade in bulky products for sleeker, smaller and more minimalistic designs (like headboards, sofas, and entertainment centers). When you trade in a bulky, tall wooden entertainment centre for a smoother, wider one, you will be shocked at the space difference.
To store seasonal products such as Christmas ornaments, winter coats, and pool equipment, use big plastic totes. They take up little room and are quick to mark and sort through.
For must-haves that just don't suit in your new home, rent a storage unit. Most storage units are fairly priced and give you the option to hang on to certain items in your new space that you just don't have room for. Right now, we're running a great special where we give one free month of storage in our facility if you choose us for your transfer.
Rent a House
A certain amount of versatility is offered by private leasing, so you can consider all the options. To give you more time to decide what you want to do or where you want to live, this breathing space can be used. Renting will leave some over 55s very insecure on the other end of it, with a range of negatives to consider. Short lease agreements, high vacancy rates, tenure protection and the wrong sort of neighbor will leave the feeling of confusion, tension and a possible risk of homelessness for renters.
Living Apartment
If the urban jungle is calling, with locations in high-density inner-city districts, close to facilities and walking distance to entertainment and restaurant precincts, apartment living may be a nice choice. Bear in mind that apartments for young (or young at heart) residents are a common option, so your neighbours might not
Be as like-minded as you are, always. And if you're thinking of renting, make sure you make allowances in your budget for the high corporate fees and stamp duty fees while buying the apartment.
